SILO Closes 2024 with Two Major Events in Madrid

SILO wrapped up 2024 by organizing two in-person events in Madrid that became key references in their respective sectors.

Chronologically, the first event was “SILO Summit” (December 3), funded by EOI as a complementary initiative to the SILOaceleraBIO accelerator, which we have been operating since 2023. SILO Summit was designed as an investment and Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) forum focused on Life Sciences. It was primarily aimed at startups, ecosystem stakeholders, innovation companies for the public sector, R&D centers, technology transfer specialists, and entrepreneurs.

The event reached full capacity, surpassing 300 participants across both online and in-person sessions, including representatives from 35 investment funds. Alongside them, prominent investment and PPI specialists participated, as well as numerous startups that had the opportunity to present their business projects before a jury composed of leading venture capital funds. The winner of the award was STAb Therapeutics.

On December 12, we organized the event “Challenges of Access to Capital Markets in the Life Sciences Sector” at the Madrid Stock Exchange building. This event featured the participation of Carlos Cuerpo, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise; Cristina Garmendia, President of the COTEC Foundation and founder of SILO; Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Universities; Montserrat Martínez, Vice President of the Spanish Securities Market Commission (CNMV); and Javier Hernani, Executive Director of BME. The event also welcomed Fina Lladós, President of Farmaindustria, and Ion Arocena, General Director of ASEBIO, alongside numerous business leaders from the sector.

During the event, an in-depth analysis of the Life Sciences sector in Spain was presented, along with strategic insights for an efficient capital market to support the sector’s growth and development. The highlight of the event was a dialogue session between the Minister and Cristina Garmendia, offering a rich discussion on the present and future of capital markets in the Life Sciences sector.
